In these modules “Developing value through procurement and supply and managing expenditures with suppliers”, a report is developed focusing on procurement supply and management (PS&M) function to achieve value for money outcomes.
The organisation of focus is Qatar Railways Company (QRC) in sourcing for catering services. Part of this report also entail evaluating approaches of management of costs for the catering services. The data used to generate the findings in this report has been sourced by use of internal documents in QRC, available research from reputable sources and suppliers analysis.
Further, various theories and models have been used from CIPS Module notes and guidance (STEEPLED, Mendelow, Kraljic and Suppliers Preferencing and more ) to generate appropriate findings.
The main findings in this report evidence that QRC works with many stakeholders for success in their PS&M and specifically sourcing for catering services. Further, with QRC operating in a competitive oligopolistic market environment, achieving value for money outcomes in their PS&M operations is essential.
The major findings is that the organisation uses a strategic approach in achieving value for money outcomes. The approach has its advantages and disadvantages with areas of improvement identified in the recommendations. From the identified findings of analysis, a set of gaps have been identified which can be managed by identified recommendations;
- Pursue detailed analysis of stakeholders positioning to ensure overall interests are prioritised
- For catering services, engage different potential suppliers to avoid monopolistic demand and supply hindering competitiveness

This advanced level third module assessment focuses on evaluating global strategic practice used in management of a supply chain in an organisation.
The rationale for working on this assignment is guided by findings that supply chain development has an influence on positioning of an organisation in a market and sustainability in sourcing process.
Also, with globalisation a current trend in modern procurement and supply chain management market, it influence how supply chain management is pursued and performance in corporate level. The organisation of focus is XXZ organisation engaged in provision of procurement outsourcing services in Qatar.
As a subsidiary with headquarters in United Kingdom, XXZ organisation supply chain and globalisation has a direct link with corporate performance. This is despite of the identified challenges, risks and opportunities.
The key findings in this report evidence supply chain network inclusive of different tiers as impacting organisation operations. This is since it has an influence on positioning for achieving set goals and corporate strategy.
From the analysis findings, the use of various models for challenges and opportunities (SWOT) and environment analysis impact on supply chain (STEEPLED) XXZ organisation is appropriately positioned in using different supply chain strategies.

(Solution) CIPS New Global Strategic Supply Chain Project
- The purpose of this project is to evaluate supply chain automation by leveraging Industry 4.0 technologies. The identified technologies include Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) noted as critical for streamlining operations and obtaining value-for-money outcomes. This has been pursued by focusing on Wood Plc.
- To conclude, the generated findings of this report evidence WPC is today adopting the application of iSourcing in their procurement and supply management (PS&M).
- In the current project, through an evaluation of options for automation of the organization PS&M, the findings evidence the existence of different limitations hindering the success of their system. The issues of cost overruns, lack of collaboration, and inefficient supply chain as the organization is expanding its current operations have been noted to include limitations of their current sourcing.
- Success in the automation of their supply chain has been identified to lead to the following outcomes;
- Organisation achievement owing to automation of their supply chain, increased confidence and capability, talent management, and employee competency
- Improved stakeholders relations (a later section of stakeholders analysis) easing the change process. Through the iSourcing improvement, WPC would be in a position of harnessing technical and commercial evaluation processes.

- Today, only lower than 10% of the entire WPC resources are used to prioritize automation and IT integration successfully. Automation would improve the use of resources in their operations

- Through the adoption of automation, better communication systems backed by AI and ML would be introduced to achieve 70% increased communication effectiveness.

In this first project in Corporate Award Program, the focus has been on role of procurement supply and management (PS&M) responsibility in achieving value for money outcomes. This is through the focus on Saudi Aramco third party logistics spend category.
Also, a review on the current approaches to management of prices and costs for the third party logistics spend category has been identified.
This is by using different data and information from contracts management, procurement, commercial-driven development, strategic sourcing and PS&M practices.
Also, different models have been used including Mendelow, Kraljic matrix, Porter’s 5 forces, STEEPLED and Suppliers Preferencing model.
The key findings obtained in this project include the view that Saudi Aramco engage multiple stakeholders for successful practice.
Also, the key findings evidence their market environment as competitive hence success in achieving value for money outcomes.
The organisation strategy of achieving value for money outcomes has similarly been identified. This is with its pros and cons enhancing or limiting a successful implementation established.
