Description
Solution
Assessment criterion 1 | To be able to critically assess different ethical standpoints on people practice and the maintenance of high standards of ethical behaviour. |
Indicative content | Different versions of ethics; taking the lead in challenging all levels of the organisation to give balanced responses to the different ethical standpoints both internally and externally, maintaining high standards of ethical behaviour. |
Starting point | Initial ability (scale 0-10) = 6/10
Explanation: I understand that ethical behaviour is based on respect, honesty and integrity as explained in Miller, & West (2020) and these principles should be followed in all aspects of life. It is important to be mindful of the consequences of actions and to always think of the impact on others based on reading Rixon, & Lloyd (2022). Furthermore, it is essential to be aware of the moral implications of decisions as mentioned in Campone (2023) and to make sure that the highest standards of ethical behaviour are maintained at all times. |
Development objectives | I need to:
1. Gain knowledge of different versions of ethics, including origins and implications. 2. Develop a better understanding of the ethical challenges faced by organizations, and the implications of decisions. 3. Learn about clear set of principles for ethical decision-making and develop the ability to evaluate the ethical implications of decisions. |
Importance to me | Essential because ethical standpoints help to ensure that people practice with integrity and respect for others, while upholding high standards of ethical behaviour. By understanding different ethical perspectives, it is possible to make better decisions and understand the potential consequences of actions. This helps to ensure that ethical behaviour is maintained and that everyone is treated fairly. |
Learning plan (with dates) | 1. Read a selection of books about ethical considerations in business contexts, such as “Human Resources And Ethics” by Bias, & Brown, “Managing business ethics: Straight talk about how to do it right” by Trevino, & Nelson. [February 2022]
2. Attend online tutorials on ethical considerations in business. Topics to explore include the importance of ethical conduct, the ethical implications of different business decisions, and how to lead with integrity and values. [February-April 2022] 3. Participate in Almarai meetings, discussion groups and forums about ethical considerations. Ask questions, share experiences, and seek out guidance from Head of HR. Look for current ethical issues and participate in debates on these topics in HR. [April-June 2022] |
Potential ways to evaluate competence | 1. Ask questions related to ethical dilemmas and observe how I respond and seek feedback.
2. Role play scenarios where I must make a decision based on ethical considerations in Almarai. 3. Discuss ethical case studies and ask to explain opinion on the best course of action and decisions. |
Possible threats | 1. Lack of resources: Not having enough resources dedicated to ethics learning, such as skilled instructors, materials, and technology, can prevent ethics learning from being as effective as it could be.
2. Lack of follow-up: Without regular follow-up and reinforcement, I may forget the information learned or become complacent in adhering to ethical standards. |
