In the modern business environment, Statista (2024) note that the value of AI amount to $53.7 billion and projected to increase with more than 30% by 2024 to $71 billion. The popularity of the different AI strategies have a significant implication on organisations and workplace practices. The examples of these AI include;
Robotics Processing Automation (RPA)
This is a type of AI which is used in improving performance in employee assigned roles. According to Doguc (2022), this is achieved through a holistic implementation of holistic data entry for staff information, processing of payrolls and managing employees time off in terms of approvals and accreditation.
The strengths of use of RPA include the capacity for enhancing automation of majority of the routine-based and repetitive HR practices which are primarily procedure based and customised. According to Doguc (2022), using RPA offer an opportunity for the employees to pursue other value adding activities in their organisation as part of assigned functions. Also, by using RPA, organisations benefits from mitigation of the human committed eras, efficiencies of operations increased, increasing speed of processing of admin functions. According to Doguc (2022), costs are saved with their operations effective in their business environment.
Natural Language Processing (NLP)
The relevance of using the NLP include application of chatbots and virtual-based assistants guiding management of multiple questions by employees, replies and having input on resourcing strategy by evaluating the contents of different employees resumes. As evidenced in Kang et al. (2020), the relevance of this AI tool is improving how the employees experience in resourcing and selection depending on their qualifications. In Saudi Aramco for instance, having many employees, NLP could co-ordinate their operations as a team in the organisation. The support is advanced to the employees at any time of their operations.
Impact on Organisation
Benefits– Considering the application of RPA, this promote the overall performance of the employees with their increased involvement in engagement in planning and executing their functions (Kang et al., 2020). Similarly, for NLP, they impact an organisation positively by promoting communication hence a high feeling of appreciation amongst the employees (Doguc, 2022). In overall, the service quality offered by the management to the organisation successfully boost services advancement in the organisation.
Risks– A significant challenge could be evident in an event Artificial Intelligence fully regulate majority of the organisation operations. According to CIPD (2024b), this is owing to its interference with normal human decision making through critical thinking. Also, there are ethical and legal concerns with use of AI which is significantly replacing humans in the organisations operations.
Impacts on Work Practices
Benefits– Through an effective embrace of RPA and NLP, this lead to improving organisation success and being productive assisting people practice teams to embrace creativity (Kang et al., 2020). This is with the employees benefiting from reduced needs by admin and attentiveness of people practice function.
Risks– Over the years, an increased embrace in AI in modern workplace contribute to a feeling of insecurity since their roles could be replaced. According to Doguc (2022), these fears impact effectiveness of their output in their assigned functions in an organisation.
