Solution
Learning Outcome 4: Be able to influence others during decision-making while showing courage and conviction.
| Assessment criterion | 12 – Assess own approaches to decision-making on complex issues, taking ownership to remedy mistakes.
Handling complex issues; managing risk in decisions; developing these behaviours in others; taking ownership when things go wrong |
| Starting point | Your initial ability (rate yourself on a scale from 0-10 where 0 is no knowledge/skill and 10 is complete knowledge/skill)
Initial ability rating: 6
Justification for this rating: In the beginning of my practice working as a people practice professional, I was average in this point when I was rating myself. The rationale of this was that I lacked a holistic capability of ensuring that I harness fairness and transparency in my undertaking successfully. My ranking was also primarily owing to the changing scope of these complex issues which I face in making decisions and how I am able to remedy the mistakes I make. I feel that I am in an appropriate position of embracing appropriate decision-making on complex issues, I am able to establish a more conducive work environment in my workplace. Further, by taking ownership to remedying the mistakes, I make sure that there is a harmonious coexistence of the different stakeholders in my organisation and actively in my operations. My experience is since this is found to be in alignment with the personal goals aligned with the organisation strategies and objectives. Being the most appropriate practice, the importance of this is ensuring that the employees are co-ordinately working hard for achieving my organisation goals and objectives which I believe are critical for my practice. |
| Development objectives | To improve my competence within this area I will:
a) To establish the relevant metrics for recognising the employees hard work, progress and achievement as a best practice of building trust of management and employees b) To be in a position of classifying areas of my decision making to those which are complex and non-complex c) To acquire skills and competencies to be in a position of managing issues which are conflict and would be challenging for my success and also remedying my entire mistakes which I made in the process
An example: Build my knowledge within the area of business ethics, with specific focus on how HRM professionals contribute to the development of cultures with high standards of ethics.
